The first Islamic prayer at the Monastery of Chora in Constantinople (Κωνσταντινούπολη, Turkish: İstanbul) will be performed by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 30, giving the "anointing" of Islamism to another monument of Christianity.
The doors of the Monastery of Chora, which have been closed for two months due to its conversion into a mosque, will reopen on October 30, in order for the first Islamic prayer in 75 years to take place.
The famous mosaics and hagiographies will be covered, just like has happened in Hagia Sophia, with curtains. The Monastery of Chora will be opened as a mosque during Islamic prayer hours and also serve as a tourist site outside of prayer times.
The Monastery of Chora was built in the 6th century AD but was converted by the Ottomans into a mosque in the 16th century.
It has been operating as a museum since 1945, however, after the decision of the Council of State in 2019, it was turned into a mosque.
