A Greek Odyssey Hits the Road

By Eleni Elefterias

A Greek Odyssey by Tia Mitsis is a travel book that focuses on mainland areas that are off the beaten track. Haunting ancient sites, some little known to tourists, are explored and information provided on how to get there.

The book was published in February 2016 and presented recently at the Greek Bilingual bookshop in Dulwich Hill, Sydney where Tia showed pictures of all the places she travelled to while researching her book.

It is an absolutely wonderful book for those who hope to travel to Greece and would like some insights into the history and culture of this amazing country.

Find out what there is to see in Athens, Agras, Edessa, Loutra Pozar, Lake Prespa, Agios Germanos, Agios Achillios, Agios Athanasios, Vergina, Thebes, Parge, Preveza, Dodoni, Nicopolis, Necromandio, Zalongo, Metsovo, Mystras, Sparta, Thermopylae, Nafpaktos and Nafplio.

In the book Tia even tackles the crisis in Greece and gives her tips on any concerns tourists may have about this. She even goes on to write about the Macedonian issue and presents the history of all places she visits.

Her goal in showcasing the mainland was mainly to show tourists there is much more to Greece than the islands. “As Tia says, “The Greece that I know is one outside of the well-trodden paths frequented by tourists…” and this is what sets this particular travel book apart from others.

Tia Mitsis is a local Australian author of a Greek background who holds a Master’s Degree in Law but has chosen to become a writer. Her genre of choice is non-fiction books. Her first book was When Study Goes Wrong.

The book is available for $22.95 from https://www.bilingualbookshop.com.au/a-greek-odyssey-by-tia-mitsis/
