Launched in July 2015, Suvlaki is a sleek, modern, fast casual restaurant serving delicious Greek street food in London’s chic Soho. The Athenian grill house has provided this neighbourhood with a unique new concept from lunch to dinner, take away to delivery and late-night bites.
The menu was originally overseen by Greek celebrity chef Elias Mamalakis who has brought the authenticity of Greece to Soho. Delectable options such as pork with tzatziki, chicken thighs with lemon mustard, lamb mince with a herb sauce, wild boar sausage with a spicy red pepper sauce or Chios island Mastelo cheese frequent the menu.
Alfred Prasad now joins Elias Mamalakis as Consultant Chef and has added a multitude of dishes to the menu. The dishes he has created come in the form of Ouzo snacks, sides, main dishes and dessert.
“I visited Greece for the first time last year and really took to the cuisine – the simplicity of cooking combined with the purity of produce. I am really excited about the opportunity to translate that inspiration to creative expression at Suvlaki. To do this alongside a Greek food legend Elias Mamalakis makes it even more special,” he says.
Prasad’s take on classic hummus comes as an Ouzo snack and consists of Florina Peppers and Fava Lentils with Tahini. Other interesting small plates are the Grilled Mastelo cheese with fig marmalade, as well as Pulled Pork Crostini with succulent pork collar and red wine, which is served with toasted pita. New side dishes to compliment the juicy meat skewers are a Chickpea Salad with cucumber and Kalamata olives, decorated with pomegranate seeds. An updated version of the extremely popular baked feta dish comes with cherry tomatoes and red onions.
Prasad has also brought with him some new signature dishes in the form of Lamb Chops; lamb cutlets marinated in thyme, chilli flakes and garlic. These are served with chickpea salad and oregano fries. Another exciting staple dish will be the Vegetarian Moussaka, which consists of grilled aubergine rolls with Mastello, courgette and quinoa, served with creamy and zesty tzatziki and toasted pita.
The menu is topped off with a new dessert aptly named “Samos to Soho”, a cheesecake that concludes the menu with the taste of Greece. The dessert contains Greek wild honey, candied ginger, mastiha, citrus and meringue.
The restaurant now also offers a takeaway menu available throughout the day from open until close. There are also options for home delivery and click and collect, which enables you to choose a specific time slot in which to collect your food. The takeaway menu is smaller and focuses on the Souvlaki wraps but if ever in this part of town, make sure you pop in and check it out.
