Russian State Honours International Greek Artist

Internationally acclaimed Greek artist Nikos Floros, will have his work ‘Imperial Russia’ exhibited until August 31 at the National Museum of the Cathedral of St. Isaac, St. Petersburg in Russia. It is the second time that the famous museum, which receives daily visitors from around the world, opens its doors to Floros.

Nikos Floros responded to the invitation of the Russian state and put his signature to the cultural life of the Greek-Russian Friendship Year 2016, with his distinctive art of metal mosaic, creating the portraits of Nicholas II, the empress Alexandra Fiontorovna and their five children Olga, Tatiana, Anastasia, Maria and Alexei .

Seven sculptures inspired by the famous Fabergé eggs next to their portraits show the evolution of the art of Nikos Floros, through the combination of aluminum and glass.

During the opening ceremony Floros was awarded an honorary prize for his contribution to the strengthening of cultural relations between the two countries, by the Director of the State Museum of St. Isaac, Nikolay Bourof.

"It's a great honour that the Russian state invited me to set out for the fourth time and create projects for the imperial Romanov family," Floros told the media.

About Nikos Floros:
Nikos Floros was born in Tripolis, Greece. He grew up in Athens and has lived and worked in several major cities around the world. He studied at the School of Fine Arts (Ecole des Beaux Arts) in Paris as well as classical piano and classical theatre in Greece. He has exhibited around the world and his sculptures are in museums and private collections.

Nikos Floros’ sculptural costumes are unique and original designs utilizing materials from everyday life; such as newspapers and aluminium cans, which he transforms into fabric-like material used to create unique sculptural art. This method was created and patented by Nikos Floros in 2003.
