Marco Silva Resigns, Victor Sanchez Returns

Olympiacos announced that Marco Silva has resigned as coach of the club-shocking news to Olympiacos fans everywhere. The Erythrolefki later announced that the new manager will be Victor Sanchez, who was an assistant during Michel's stay in Piraeus.

Shocking news came from the club that coach Marco Silva resigned from his position after Olympiacos' second day of pre-season training in Austria. The Portuguese coach requested resignation due to personal reasons, something that was honored by the club. Olympiacos announced "Olympiacos FC would like to inform their fans that Marco Silva requested his resignation due to personal reasons. The club accepted his resignation."

Later in the day Olympiacos announced their new manager as Victor Sanchez. Sanchez is not a new name to Olympiacos as he was an assistant to former coach Michel. He knows the team well, how the team works, and the staff. He left Olympiacos in 2014 and in 2015 took over Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna. With La Coruna heading for relegation, Sanchez saved the team from the 2nd Division and his contract was renewed for another year. Throughout the 2015-2016 season, Deportivo sat comfortably in the standings of the Spanish La Liga and the relegation threat was avoided. Sanchez is already in Austria with the team and will begin his first training session with the players today. Earlier in the year, Sanchez was rumored to move to the club in the scenario that Silva would leave. The Spaniard was chosen based on the fact that he knows the club well and has worked there before. Also, the success of his former club, Deportivo La Coruna, and his experience in one of the top leagues in Europe played a role in Olympiacos’ decision.
