Greece won easily 78-53 over Iran in the opening game of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The Greeks dominated the match and got off to a good start in the competition. The second and final group stage game will be against Mexico on Wednesday.
Greece got off to a great start in the game and, through their tight defensive play, was able to take an early lead. In the first quarter, Greece was ahead by 9 points and from there, they did not seem to let up. In the second quarter, Greece shot well from behind the arc, and a late run gave the Galanolefki a 17-point advantage at halftime.
The second half was similar to the first as Greece dominated the game, mainly through their defence, and the National Team kept their comfortable lead. With The margin too much for Iran to overcome, the pace of the game fell, and Greece came away with a 78-53 victory.
The Greek defence had 17 steals and it showed much improvement from the friendly games. Antetokounmpo was the leading scorer with 16 points and Perperoglou followed with 11 points. Greece will play Mexico on Wednesday in the final match of Group A.
