Greek Foreign Minister invited to FYROM

Greece’s foreign minister Nikos Kotzias will be visiting the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia today in a bid to thaw relations between the two countries and hopefully serve as a catalyst in resolving the decades old name dispute.

In a statement released by the Greek Foreign Ministry, Mr Kotzias was invited by his counterpart in FYROM Nikola Poposki, to be a keynote speaker at an annual gathering of FYROM ambassadors.

Following the gathering, the two foreign ministers are expected to make statements to the media, after which Mr Kotzias will then meet with the Deputy Prime Minister for European Union Affairs, Fatmir Besimi, and, subsequently, with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

According to the Greek foreign ministry, Kotzias will also be received by the President of the Republic, Mr. Gjorge Ivanov, and will attend a working luncheon being hosted in his honor by his FYROM counterpart.

Finally, Mr. Kotzias will have meetings with the heads of the main political parties. More specifically, he will meet with the opposition leader and head of the SDSM, Zoran Zaev, with DPA President Menduh Thaci, and with DUI President Ali Ahmeti.
