9000 illegal immigrants and refugees on Greek islands

The dreaded flow of boat smugglers and their desperate and impoverished human cargo is on the rise again, with more than 120 refugees and illegal migrants arriving on Greek islands within the last 24 hour period.

As of Monday, more than 57,047 refugees and illegal immigrants had been identified on Greek territory with over 9,000 of them currently stationed on eastern Aegean islands.

According to the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body's figures, 21,742 of the refugees are in northern Greece, 10,106 are hosted in the region of Attica and 2,752 are hosted in facilities of central and southern Greece. 7,469 refugees and migrants are hosted in several facilities rented by the UNHCR, 2,859 in non-organised facilities 2,200 persons are living outside organised facilities.
