Hellas proudly gains 13 medals at Rio Paralympics 2016

The Rio Paralympics 2016 came to a close on Sunday in Rio, where Greece proudly gained 13 medals- including five Gold.

Thanasis Constantinidis was Greece’s flag bearer in the closing ceremony, after winning two of Greece’s medals in the Games. Constantinidis won gold in shot put in the F32 category and also broke the world record three times. He also won silver in the club throw of the F31/32 category.

Grigoris Polychronidis, who carried Greece’s flag in the opening ceremony, also won two medals, in boccia, with a silver in the BC3 category’s individual competition, and bronze with the rest of the national team that was third in the same category.

The other four Gold medals for Greece were gained from 17-year old Dimosthenis Michalentzakis in swimming’s 100 meters butterfly, Che Jon Fernandes in shot put F53, Pavlos Mamalos in powerlifting’s -107 kilos, and Manolis Stefanoudakis in javelin F53/54.

Greece also came away with two other Silver medals- Dimitris Senikidis in shot put F20 and Panos Triantafyllou in fencing’s saber Category B, while there were three more bronzes from Dimitra Korokida in shot put F53, from Dimitris Zisidis in shot put F32 and from Dimitris Bakochristos in powerlifting’s -54 kilogram category.
