Athens International Airport was announced as the winner in its category, at the recent World Routes 2016 Marketing Award held in Chengdu, China.

The “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport came first in the 4-20million Passengers category which translates to 16 route distinctions in the last 12 years, the most of any airport in the world.

“I would like to thank the airlines, which once again, with their vote and confidence, brought us to the top”, AIA’s communications and marketing director, Ioanna Papadopoulou, said.

The World Routes Marketing Awards recognise excellence in airport and destination marketing. Airlines vote for the marketing services that support the successful launch of new routes or the development of existing ones, making them highly regarded in the aviation industry.

“With our passenger traffic on a positive course during the first eight months of the year, we continue, in close cooperation and dialogue with our airline partners, to deliver complete airport-style marketing programs, while systematically promoting our destination, Athens“, Ms Papadopoulou said.

“Our campaign entitled ‘Aviation Marketing delivered in a novel way’ expresses our effort to analyse the needs of each airline, to adapt our strategy accordingly and deliver innovative and pioneering programs to support airlines. With this approach, we believe that we are effectively and consistently supporting development plans and activities of airlines in our market.”

The World Routes Marketing Awards were held on the sidelines of the 22nd World Route Development Forum (World Routes 2016) hosted by Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport during September 24-27. The forum saw the attendance of some 3,500 aviation industry representatives from 300 airlines and 700 airports.
