On Sunday 25th September 2016, The National Union of Greek Australian Students Victoria, NUGAS VIC, hosted its annual ball. This year’s event was the biggest ball NUGAS has ever hosted, with over 900 students from all around Australia, coming together for an evening that was ‘The Night of the Year’.

NUGAS VIC, was established to promote the Greek community, culture and education, while uniting Greek-Australian students and Philhellenes from the 8 University Greek Associations in Victoria. With over 2,000 members, NUGAS continues to grow and evolve- increasingly diversifying its events and providing a range of social and cultural events, services and interactivity for all its members.

The Ball was held at Docklands Peninsula, one of Melbourne’s most glamorous waterfront event spaces that overlooks the stunning Victoria Harbour. It was a special and memorable night as there was lots of Greek dancing, live music, socialising and meeting new people from Melbourne, as well as from interstate with UTS Hellenic, the Greek Society from the Univeristy of Technology in Sydney and Greek Orthodox Youth of Australia from Queensland attending the sellout Ball.

The live music by ‘Orchestra by PK’ was incredible- from the moment the guitarist strummed his cord on his guitar, the drummer hit the drums, and the bouzouki was heard through the speakers, students were up and dancing. A few seconds later, the dance floor was filled, and the tables were empty, as everyone was up dancing, enjoying themselves, and meeting new people they were dancing next to.

The dancing and party didn’t stop there though. The official NUGAS Ball afterparty continued at Ms COLLINS. With three levels and three rooms playing Greek, House and Main Music, everyone’s feet continued to move. The after-party also featured special guest Dj Bobby Love from Phat Fridays, the godfather of RNB, who is also one of the most famous DJ’s on the circuit.

NUGAS VIC President Kyriacos Karaolides commented that this year’s NUGAS Ball was “History making as the 942 people who attended contributed to making it the largest NUGAS Ball in history. The smiles, the laughter, the kefi on the night, altogether made it a night to remember for all who attended. You know you're at the NUGAS Ball and it's been a huge success when you can't fit everyone on the dance floor!”

By the end of it all, everyone’s feet were danced out, but it was an amazing night and no one wanted to go home.

A huge congratulations to the NUGAS committee for such an amazing sellout event!
