The latest data released from the Greek Tourist Organisation point to a significant increase in international arrivals at Greek airports for the month of September.

According to the same data, there is an overall increase of 7.6% in this 9 month season compared to last year, across the country, with notable increases in Athens and Thessaloniki.

"The increase in arrivals is thanks to special tourist packages and lower prices promoted by companies in an effort to attract last minute tourists," SETE said.

Arrivals to Crete, the Ionian Islands and the Cyclades arrivals rose by 11.3 percent, 12.2 percent and 10.2 percent respectively in September on a year-on-year basis. Arrivals also rose in Athens (14.3 percent) and Thessaloniki (23.5 percent).

It comes as no surprise that the data also points to decreases in arrivals on islands that have been tangled up in the refugee crisis, with Lesvos suffering a 44.5% drop in international arrivals, followed by Kos (2.9%) and Samos (13.7%).
