Trump and Tsipras make contact

According to the Greek government Press Office, the Greek PM on Wednesday spoke with US President-elect Donald Trump and congratulated him on his election victory and emphasised the strong ties between the two countries and cooperation between the Greek and American people.

Discussion points included Greeceā€™s crucial role for peace and security for the region, its handling of the refugee crisis during a financial crisis and the economic challenges it faces in light of its efforts of structural reforms.

Both Tsipras and Trump reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the US-Greece relationship and co-operating across many areas, following up the recent visit to Greece by U.S. President Barack Obama.
