Athens has been named among the 17 best places to visit in the world for 2017, according to the Editors at worldwide renowned magazine Conde Nast Traveller.
Canada came first place on this list as the best place to visit in 2017 and Athens ranked number 5.
Conde Nast Traveller says that Athens is not only a historical city, but is now emerging as a capital of modern art, thanks to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre and Greece’s new National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST).
The magazine also notes that Athens is making a comeback, although in the recent past it had been overshadowed by other European capitals such as Rome. Moreover, it is mentioned that the Greek capital is a stopover for travel to the islands.
“Book a room in the shadow of the Acropolis at the new-as-of-2015 Athens Was boutique hotel, and make time for a souvlaki (or three) at O Kostas, which serves the best in town. Though it’s long played second fiddle to other European capitals like Rome, and merely seen as a stopover point on the way to, say, Corfu, Athens has once again arrived,” says Conde Nast editor Katherine LaGrave.
