One of the hottest topics of Eurovision 2017 season is Greece’s decision on who will represent the nation this year.

After a quiet selection process in 2016, Greece have done the complete opposite in their approach this time round, with much speculation and rumours in the Greek media since June 2016- naming artist after artist.

Greek singer Demy was subject of the first rumour after she openly spoke about her interest in representing Greece in 2017. She was also linked to a potential collaboration with Dimitris Kontopoulos and Fokas Evaggelinos.

Greek media has now reported that ERT have asked both Demy and X Factor Greece finalists Stereo Soul to submit songs for selection, ahead of a national final, which is to take place in February.

It would be a straight battle between the two acts, who have been asked to prepare two songs each. ERT are believed to have selected the acts based on conversations with record labels. Both acts have also made it clear they are interested in going to Eurovision.

Demy’s bid was recently supported by Greece’s 2008 representative Greek American performer Kalomira who herself was subject to rumours of a comeback until she publically denied this last week. While Demy’s interest in Eurovision has been known since June, Stereo Soul have also previously declared interest in participating in the contest.

No one is holding their breath however, it seems that ERT is wanting to lock in the representative very soon- especially after their non-qualification last year. Let’s hope Greece is back in the game for 2017!

Who would you like to represent Greece in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest? Do you think a national final consisting of Demy and Stereo Soul is the best option?
