The oldest man in Greece has died at the age of 112. Mr Theodoros Masouras from Achaia, lived through some of the most important historical events in Greece.

When WW1 started, he was 12 years old and was 35 during WW2. His relatives told Greek media he had full mental clarity until the end and was even still writing poetry.

He was a farmer from a village in Ileia, Western Peloponnese and had moved to Achaia years ago.  Masouras was also a widower, raising his five children alone.

He was careful with his diet and had no serious health problems until 2015. During the last year of his life he was bed-ridden. However, he kept writing poetry which was his hobby.

Good genes run in the family as Masouras was one of eight brothers, the majority of them died between the ages of 90 and 104.
