Greek American actress Rita Wilson says her Oscar winning husband Tom Hanks helped her deal with her breast cancer battle by making her laugh.
Wilson, who is now '100 per cent cancer free', spoke openly and emotionally of how her husband was her "rock" during her fight with breast cancer and a double mastectomy two years ago.
Tom and Rita have been married 29 years and are a devout Greek Orthodox couple, always holding Greece dear to their heart and spoke about her battle as they attended a charity benefit for the Women's Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel over the weekend for which they were co-chairs.
Wilson expressed how her loving husband helped her feel human as she fought back from a very difficult time in her life.
“I think when I was going through my diagnoses and surgery, one thing that I really wanted to communicate to people now that we're through it is that there are still times when you have love and you smile and you laugh,” Wilson said.
“We watched movies, we watched great documentaries, we ate good food and we did our best to maintain our spirit and be thankful,” she added.
Hanks also stated, “It's not that hard to do. It's like when there's a big rainstorm outside, you bust out the hot cocoa and make sure everyone is comfortable.”
