Sydney and Melbourne turned blue and white as both cities were filled with spectacular Greek music, dancing, food, drinks and not to mention a brilliant performance by much loved Greek singer Glykeria, this weekend, when both towns celebrated all things Greek at what was the 35th Greek Festival of Sydney and the 30th Lonsdale St Greek Festival in Melbourne.

Both Greek festivals were a huge success, highlighting the immense Greek pride amongst the Diaspora in both states and also showing Australian Philhellenes great admiration of Greek culture.

Over 100,000 people in total walked through Sydney’s Darling Harbour precinct on Saturday and Sunday, enjoying  entertainment, Greek food and drinks, market stalls, dance performances and appearances by Acropolis Now stars Mary Coustas and George Kapiniaris. Greeks and non-Greeks alike enjoyed live entertainment from 3pm Saturday afternoon right through to late Sunday evening.

While more than 40,000 people flooded the historic Lonsdale Street Greek Precinct over both days, as the huge Festival served up some of Melbourne’s best Greek street food. In the evening, food switched to music, and the stage buzzed with local musicians offering music for the many regions of Greece.

The outdoor pop up Festival Bar was also a hot spot across the weekend, drawing people wanting to relax and soak in the atmosphere.
