Katerina Stefanidis has won GOLD again! The Greek athlete finished first in the Women's Pole Vault event at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade.

With her jump at 4.85 meters, Katerina Stefanidis won the gold medal in the Women's Pole Vault event at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade. Her night got off to a shaky start as she failed to surpass 4.55 meters on her first attempt but managed to jump over that height on her second attempt. She them cleared 4.65 meters on her first attempt and skipped 4.70 meters and 4.75 meters to jump into first place ahead of Germany's Lisa Ryzih, by clearing 4.80 meters on her first attempt.

Lisa Ryzih, who put up a hard fight against Stefanidis for the gold, cleared 4.40 m, 4.55 m, 4.65 m, 4.70 m, and 4.75 meters on her first attempts.  However, one failed attempt at 4.80 meters and two failed attempts at 4.85 meters saw her fall into second place behind Stefanidis to win the silver medal.

Stefanidis secured the gold medal with her jump at 4.85 meters on her first try, adding yet another gold medal to her impressive collection. She did attempt to clear 4.91 meters but failed on all three efforts.

Stefanidis is now the pole vault European Champion in Indoor & Outdoor Athletics and of course the defending Olympic Champion in the sport. In August, she will look to become the World Outdoor Athletics Champion at the event in London.

It is Greece’s second medal of the day in Belgrade after Voula Papachristou won bronze in the Women’s Triple Jump and their second in Pole Vaulting as Kostas Filippidis won silver in the Men's event on Friday.
