Turkey threatens Europe with 15,000 refugees a month via Greece

Following Erdogan’s threat to cancel the migration deal which sought to stem the flow of refugees , Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has stepped in and threatened to "blow the mind" of Europe by sending 15,000 refugees a month.

Meanwhile Greek authorities have already reported a spike in refugee numbers, with more than 300 illegal migrants and refugees arriving on Aegean islands in the last 48 hours.

More than 100 arrivals were reported on the island of Lesvos and 230 on Chios.

According to the official figures on Sunday 8,607 migrants and refugees that have sought asylum in Greece and their request has been not examined yet remain stranded on the Greek islands.

In 2015, over 850,000 people reached Greek islands by boat from Turkey and in March 2016, Turkey and the European Union signed a migration deal worth €3 billion in funding with the purpose of stemming the flow.

Since its implementation the EU reported that the deal had brought positive results with a significant decrease in arrivals from Turkey to Greece but is now in jeopardy since the recent diplomatic tensions which have only been reinforced by provocative statements.

"If you want, we could open the way for 15,000 refugees that we don't send each month and blow the mind" of Europe,’’ said Turkey’s Interior Minister .
