In an effort to make the city centre of Athens more enjoyable, the City of Athens is proceeding with its scheme to makeover Athens commercial district. Two new pedestrianised streets, Vyssis and Kairi in the area of Psyrri will be accessible to local Athenians and visitors as of tomorrow Saturday, April 1.
According to an announcement by the City of Athens, traffic will be diverted and drivers will be able to reach Athinas street through Mitropoleos and Karagiorgi Servias streets. Xrysospiliotissis street is now banned to cars from the junction of Praksitelous street to Vyssis street.
The creation of a pedestrianised street network in the heart of Athens is among the Municipality’s main priorities and aims to improve living conditions in the Greek capital by applying waste management practices and new rules on the management of public spaces, the circulation and parking of vehicles, the display of posters and graffiti street art.
This will surely be a good improvement. Enforcing the no-smoking laws in this area would also make for a great improvement. Many tourists and locals complain about being exposed to smoking and it is a reason for avoiding many clubs and restaurants. We need to have an environment where non-smokers have the same rights as smokers
Thank you.
