Twenty three students from the 4th Veria high school in Greece who were on a school trip to St Petersburg are safe, Greece’s Consul General to the city, Panos Beglitis, told Greek media on Monday.

Beglitis said the students were visiting Tsarskoye Selo when the blast happened at the metro station, a town located 24 kilometres south of St Petersburg.

The Consul General confirmed that he spoke with the students’ teacher, Mr Theotokidis, who assured him that he is in continuous contact with the president of the Greek association to check those who are outside the city and record the ongoing developments.

"All Greeks, residents or visitors to the city are fine. We have no reports of any Greeks amongst the victims. The city is trying to find its rhythm again and people come to terms with the horror as they attempt to carry on with their lives,’’ said the Consul General.

The Greek Consulate General is in close contact with Russian authorities throughout the investigations.
