Extended operating hours for Museums & sites in Greece for holiday period

On Tuesday, the Culture Ministry announced many museums and archaeological sites in Greece will be operating with extended opening hours until October 31, coinciding with Greece’s peak tourism period.

As of today, museums and sites including the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the archaeological sites and museum of the Royal Tombs in Vergina and Spinalonga will all now operate from 8am to 8pm.

Archaeological sites of the Acropolis in Athens, the Akrotiri of Thera in Santorini and the Archaeological Museum of Chania in Crete will continue opening from 8am and closing at 8pm.

All archaeological sites, monuments and museums in Greece will be closed on Easter Sunday (April 16), May 1 and other official public holidays. On Holy Friday (April 14) sites and museums will run from 12 am to 5 pm and on Holy Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm.

The announcement came after Culture Minister Lydia Koniordou recently confirmed  that 1,314 employees will be hired in order to extend visiting hours at major sites across the country.
