Greece has denounced Turkish provocation once again, after the Turkish European Affairs Minister Omer Celik claimed that the Greek island of Agathonisi was Turkish territory during an interview on Turkish television.
Celik made the provocative statement as a response to the visit on the island during Easter by Greece’s Defence Minister Panos Kammenos.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official rebuke and condemnation of the latest provocations.
"We categorically condemn the continuing revisionary policy of Turkey, which is making provocative statements questioning internationally recognised borders as these have been historically formed and established under international law in the last century," the announcement said.
Greece denounced Turkey's continued revisionary and dangerous behaviour to the international community and the member-states of the United Nations, the announcement added.
"It creates a painfully bad impression that this time the questioning of international law comes from the lips of the minister responsible for Turkey's accession to the European Union," the announcement added.
Celik’s statements to Turkish media comes a day after another Turkish Minister said that Turkey would not allow Greece to establish a status of “a fait accompli” in the “disputed” areas in the Aegean Sea.
