Poppy Eikospentaki, mother of 6 year old girl Stella, strangled to death by her father said she will not rest until her husband has been sentenced to life behind bars.

The 61-year-old man, a retired policeman, reported his daughter missing to a local police station in Athens on Thursday morning. He claimed that when he woke up in the morning to take her and her twin brother to school, she wasn’t home. He had further claimed that there was a burglary at his home and the girl was kidnapped, with her shoes left behind.

Stella’s mother was in hospital recovering from surgery when the tragedy occurred and police became suspicious about the disappearance, when the father’s story did not add up. The girl's body was later found in a rubbish bin near their family home.

After his first testimony to local police, the father was taken to the headquarters of Greek Police for further investigation and after 12 hours of interrogation, he finally admitted to the crime, however he said it was an accident and is now claiming he has mental health issues and also suffers from depression.

The child’s devastated mother says her husband does not suffer from a mental illness, with reports claiming he was violent towards his wife and children and especially hard on Stella, who had a walking disability.

Poppy, who is now also dealing with trying to explain to her son what happened to his twin sister, faced her husband for the first time since the crime and demanded to know why he took Stella’s life and screamed she will not rest until he is severely punished.
