Greece and Russia aim for closer ties



Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in China on the sidelines of the international ‘’Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation” held in Beijing.

Tsipras reaffirmed the need to strengthen ties with Russia in the sectors of economy, trade and tourism in his meeting with the Russian President.

The Greek PM highlighted the significant increase in trade and in the number of tourists from Russia to Greece since last year and that both governments are closely cooperating on the strengthening of the bilateral relations in all sectors.

In an effort to strengthen bilateral relations Greece and Russia will prepare the new Joint Ministerial Committee meeting.

On his part, the Russian President thanked the Greek Prime Minister for his efforts to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Digital Policy minister Nikos Pappas were also present at the meeting.

‘’With President Putin we discussed on the strengthening of our bilateral relations and the developments in the region" tweeted the Greek PM.
