Espen Barth Eide, the UN envoy to Cyprus announced on Wednesday that he is hoping to get the leaders of the Greek and Turkish communities to agree to a final summit on resolving the reunification plans of the divided island.

Eide made the announcement following meetings with President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, adding there were “real differences” that still need to be worked out before that happens.

The President of Cyprus insisted that the summit first deal with the most difficult issues including post-reunification security arrangements whilst the Turkish Cypriot leader wants all matters to be discussed together.

Both leaders failed to reach agreement during negotiations held in Geneva, Switzerland in January this year.
