Greece’s Central Archaeological Council will be sending 20 antiquities after a request from the famed Getty Centre in Los Angeles for an exhibition on ancient Egypt and its connection with Greek and Roman culture.
Along with Greece, some of the world’s greatest museums will also be lending some 200 artefacts for the exhibition titled "Egypt-Greece-Rome: Cultures in Contact", which examines the relations that developed among the civilisations from the Late Bronze Age to the post Roman era with focus on Egypt.
Initially the Getty Centre had asked for 25 antiquities but Greece agreed to 20 as the additional five were deemed too fragile, amongst those the marble statue of Antinoos from Marathon that belongs to the National Archaeological Museum's Egyptian Collection.
The exhibition at Getty is part of cooperation memorandum signed in 2011 between the Getty Museum and the Greek Ministry of Culture.
The exhibition will be held from March 27 to September 9 2018 at the Getty Centre at 1200 Getty Centre Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90049, USA.
