“Eros - Charity from the Heart” partnering with M&J Chickens is holding its 4th Annual Fundraising Night, this year in support for the Starlight Children’s Foundation on Saturday 24th June in Sydney this weekend.
“The idea behind Eros was influenced by my memories as a little girl growing up and going to various ‘horos’ (dance nights) with my parents. I remember dancing the night away, meeting up with my friends and at the end of the evening, sleeping on the chairs while my parents continued to dance the night away. I also remember the great memories I have dancing with my dad, who sadly has now passed away. These ‘horos’ that I grew up with aren’t occurring anymore and unfortunately my girls haven’t been able to feel and experience what I had at their age, hence I wanted to bring back the concept of a ‘horo' but with a modern twist to it, having both Greek and English music, while at the same time fundraising for a children's charity,” says committee member Kathy Papas.
The Committee “Eros - Charity from the Heart” consists of a group of friends who came together to volunteer their time and give back annually to the community, by supporting a variety of charities in a fun environment.
Another committee member Connie Athanasatos commented that “For me, being a part of this, is something which I hold dear to my heart. Along with my fellow committee members, we also wanted to share with our children the experience of a Greek ‘horo’, which is why each year we organise a Greek Family night. This enables us to share and teach our children about Greek Culture while trying to raise much needed funds for worthwhile causes.”
Last year the Eros Committee raised over $34,000 towards the Bear Cottage. In 2017, they have chosen to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation whose mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
The event includes a 3 course meal with Beer, wine & soft drinks, entertainment, a silent auction, and raffles with many wonderful prizes to be won.
