Hundreds of Afghan refugees took to the streets on the island of Lesvos on Tuesday to protest delays in their asylum applications.

The refugees were protesting the ban on leaving the island as they wait for their asylum application to be processed.

The protesters, who live in camps around the island, wore T-shirts that stated the date of their arrival in Lesvos and the time they've spent on the island and chanted "Afghanistan is not a safe country; deportations must stop".

Some protesters claimed they had been on Lesvos for over a year and their interviews for their asylum application have been postponed until 2018 and reiterated their request for asylum.
