Greece to become service hub for American weapon systems

Alternate Minister for Defence Dimitris Vitsas said that part of the Greek PMs agenda during his US visit is to turn Greece into a hub for the servicing and upgrading of American weapon systems.

Vitsas made the comments during an interview with state broadcaster ET1 in Athens just before the Greek PMs meeting with Donald Trump.

"In the countries around us - in the Balkans as well as in North Africa and the Middle East - all weapon systems are American-made, therefore it would be of interest (to the US) to have a centre for their upgrade, processing, maintenance and so on, in the stablest country in the region," Vitsas said.

Vitsas said that Greek-American businesspeople are "very interested in collaborations and joint production lines in the defence industry" and in Greece's potential as a manufacturing centre in the future reconstruction of countries in of the region.

The Greek PM met is accompanied to his meetings with US officials by Greece’s National Defence Minister Panos Kammenos.
