Greece had its first trial on gender registration on Wednesday after a university student requested an Athenian court to allow him to be registered as non-binary.
The male student in question requested from the court that his biological gender be erased from his birth certificate and not be included in his official documents and to be able to add the name "Antigoni" to his own.
News of the trial comes after the recent decision by the Greek government to pass a bill granting individuals the right to change their gender identity.
However the law only recognises two genders, which is problematic for the student who insists that he doesn’t belong to either.
The court is expected to make a decision in the following days.
