According to Greek authorities an additional 265 refugees and migrants were removed from the troubled island of Lesvos in an effort to decongest the existing migrant centres.
The group of refugees and migrants boarded a ferry bound for Pireaus where authorities will receive them and arrange for their relocation on the mainland.
The mass relocation of migrants on the island of Lesvos are set to continue as part of the Ministry of Migration’s policy plan and will ensure that only a reasonable number of individuals are left on island’s migrants centres.
It is estimated that there are 7,500 refugees and migrants on Lesvos but authorities want to reduce that number to 3,500 which would alleviate current pressures in the migrant camps and make them more liveable.
