Arsenal have completed the signing of 20-year-old Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos from PAS Giannina for 2.47 million euro.
The young soccer star had been in talks with the Gunners after making 16 Greek Super League appearances following his breakthrough last season into the first team.
Mavropanos, who was also wanted by Olympiacos, has represented Greece Under-21’s and is recognised as one of the country’s best prospects.
Reports claim Mavropanos is likely to go out on loan and is one of the players to be identified by the club’s new scouting team, led by newly appointed head of recruitment Sven Mislintat. A length of contract for Mavropanos has not been given.
Mavropanos is Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window and the Gunners’ statement read: “Young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us. The 20-year-old centre-back arrives from PAS Giannina, where he has made 16 Greek Super League appearances since breaking into the first team last season.
“We’d like to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for the future,” said the Club.
