Winter in Greece

Greece’s most popular winter spots hit an all time high in arrivals over the Christmas and New Year period, with hotel occupancy rates in some of the country’s mountainous regions reaching 100 percent, proving that Greece really is an all year round destination!

Speaking to Naftemporiki newspaper, the President of the Magnesia Hoteliers Association George Zafiris said hotels on Mount Pelion were completely full, while other destinations in the region saw the number of tourists significantly increasing.

Arrivals were also up in Western Greece, mainly due to a rise in domestic tourism, while the new Olympia highway, currently connecting Athens to Patra, was a major contributor to the increase of travellers, tourism experts say.

Furthermore, hotel occupancy rates reached 75 percent in Thessaloniki during the Christmas holidays and 90 percent over the New Year break. While destinations including Drama and Kavala in eastern Macedonia, also experienced a rise in incoming tourism with hotel occupancy at 90 percent.
