A newborn has been found dead outside an apartment block in Nea Smyrni, South Athens. According to the autopsy conducted on Monday, the baby boy was born alive and healthy and probably died after being left for over 12 hours outside in the cold.
It is reported that the baby was not born in hospital.
The body did not any have external injuries and the exact cause of his death remains undetermined. The results from toxicological examinations are expected to reveal more about the tragic death.
This is the second incident this year of a newborn being found dead in Athens, in February a baby was also found dead in a garbage bin in Petroupolis, a suburb of West Athens.
