Celebrating genius composer Yannis Markopoulos

Experience this spectacular concert celebrating the music of genius Greek composer Yannis Markopoulos. Featuring his classical symphonic works such as The Free Besiegedas well as other well-loved popular classics including Who Pays the Ferryman.

Internationally acclaimed vocalist Vasilis Lekkas makes his Sydney debut, performing with a symphony orchestra conducted by George Ellis.

During a time of uncertainty in Greece in the 1960s, award-winning composer Markopoulos challenged popular and conservatively held beliefs about how music could be put together. He used instruments of his own invention and often used lyre, for example, in combination with Western piano – resulting in a rich variety of musical sounds.

Markopoulos was awarded the Music Prize for the International Thessaloniki Film Festival at the age of 24 and was also highly proficient at writing memorable singable melodies including the music for the BBC television series Who Pays the Ferryman.

Duration: approximately 3 hours, including interval

Concert is tonight, Friday 27 April at 7:30pm - tickets can be purchased here:
