Prince Charles accepts invitation from Greek President

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoloulos invited Prince Charles to an official dinner in honour of his Royal Highness, which will be attended by prominent Athenians as well as leading members of the political class.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall Camila Parker, are expected to arrive on the afternoon of May 9,  where they will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier before receiving a welcome at the Presidential Mansion and Prime Minister's Residence.

There will however be no official reception at the Presidential residence by the President of the Republic, as Prince Charles is not a Head of State yet.

During their stay in Athens, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will also lay a wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery  and then attend a number of engagements to celebrate the UK and Greece's longstanding maritime relationship.

It is expected that on May 10, Prince Charles will meet with the Head of the Greek Orthodox Church in Greece, Archbishop Ieronymos followed by a visit to the port of Piraeus for a tour of the HMS Echo and the HMC Valiant, which cooperate with the Hellenic Coast Guard in search and rescue exercises.

No stranger to Greece, Prince Charles is a frequent visitor to the country, especially Corfu island where he spends some time, almost every year, with Camila and of course there's Mount Athos, which seems to be his favourite spiritual retreat.
