Greece's airports continue to break records

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) on Thursday released data for the first four months of 2018 that shows a continuous upward trend in Greece’s airport passenger flow.

According to HCAA, the total number of passengers travelling through Greek airports during the the first quarter of 2018 reached 9,939,154, up by 6.4 percent over the corresponding period of 2017 (9,345,106 passengers).

The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 94,238 (of which 49,627 domestic and 44,611 international), an increase of 2,7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2017.

The report also revealed that the airports of Kavala, Naxos and Milos recorded the highest percentage increase in passengers in the first four months of 2018.

Airport showed the highest passenger traffic growth rate with an increase of 230.1 percent (90,252 passengers compared to 27,343 in the corresponding period of 2017).

In April alone, 3,653,878 passengers passed through Greek airports, showing an increase of 7.1 percent. The number of international passengers reached reached 1.276.220, up by 6 percent compared to the same month in 2017.

The total number of flights to Greek airports in April amounted to 32,552, a 4 percent increase over the corresponding period of 2017, when 31,313 flights took place.

Greek airports that welcomed the most passengers in April were those of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania.
