Greece’s 20-year-old tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has won his first grand slam match and qualified through to the second round at Roland-Garros. The tennis world is watching as the young star is progressing rapidly in the international circuit and beat Spaniard Carlos Taberner 7-5, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Tsitsipas who ranks 40th in the world, was ahead of 3-0 and 5-2 in the first set, but the Spaniard equalised and after 58 minutes Tsitsipas took the lead with 7-5. The second set was very close and after an hour and 11 minutes Taberner took the set 6-7. Tsitsipas was determined in the third set and maintained a steady lead in two games, and it took him 45 minutes to take the advantage with 6-4.

In the last set, the Greek tennis player showed more confidence than the Spaniard, as he kept his serve and after 41 minutes he won the match 6-3.  Tsitsipas’ opponent in round 2 will be Austrian Dominique Tim, who is ranked 8th in the world.  It should be noted that Tsitsipas is the first Greek tennis player to qualify for the second round of the French open since 2007.
