The much-loved 8th Athens Open Air Film Festival will be open on June 4, with the collaboration of Athens & Epidaurus Festival, which has become an annual tradition. In 2018, the event will be part of Athens – UNESCO World Book Capital for 2018. Three films focusing on the relationship of cinema and literature will be screened at the Festival as the city of Athens is transformed into an inter-connected celebration of this most magical of summer traditions.

Special spots at archaeological sites, parks, squares, beaches, museums and other places around the city are set to turn into open-air cinemas with free entrance for everyone.

This year's 8th Athens Open Air Film Festival begins on 4 June with “The Bridges of Madison,” Clint Eastwood's masterful romance, which in 1995 gave Meryl Streep another Oscar nomination for her role in the film.

Until August, there will be screenings all across the city and this year for the first time there will also be a special showing at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidauros, of Elektra, directed by Mihalis Kakogiannis.

The poster of the 8th Athens Open Air Film Festival was edited by graphic designer and illustrator Vasilis Mexis, who says, "On the backdrop of the twilight, this year the Athens Open Air Film Festival symbolically takes the shape of a lighthouse. It rises and stands like a magical projector that spreads its own light into the night. For the 8th year, this light will transform the corners of the city into summer cinemas, where until August we will be offered a mosaic of cinematic masterpieces. The Athens Summer Festival is preparing to broadcast again, like a bright lighthouse in the "ocean" of the night city. "

There will also be lots of drama movies, award-winning masterpieces from all over the world and of course many Greek films, which will all be accompanied by live music and other entertainment.

Films begin at sunset and will take place between June – July at 9:30pm and August –at 9pm.
