96th Annual Kytherian Debutante Ball

On Saturday 2nd June 2018, over 600 guests attended the 96th Annual Kytherian Debutante Ball at the Royal Randwick Racecourse.

Guest of Honour for the night was Mr. Christos Karras, Consul General of Greece, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Katia Gkikiza, Trade Commissioner.

The thirteen debutantes, their partners and the Matron of Honour Terase Calligeros, had a wonderful evening and were the stars of the night. With the few practice sessions they had, they showcased an outstanding performance and really enjoyed themselves doing so.

Not only were guests entertained by the wonderful display of dancing, they were also given a chance to watch ‘The Diamonds’ who have enchanted audiences across the globe performing at VIP pre-shows for Beyoncé’s recent Mrs Carter World Tour, and live Greek music, with Angelo Kokalaras on the bongo drum, George Calopedos strumming the bouzouki, and Georgio Svolos playing the clarinet, who all had the crowd up on their feet and on the dance floor, enjoying the sounds.

“You don’t need an excuse for greeks to come together do you? As long as you have good food, music, kefi and enjoyable dancing. The debutante ball gives the Kytherian community the opportunity to showcase our youth and because we are very family orientated, we get several generations of families watching proudly as the debutantes and their partners go through their performance.

Not only are they introduced into our Kytherian community but friends and guests that are not Kytherian get to experience this gala event as well. Mums, dads, grandparents and a few great grandparents get to see the future generations at their best…and they were not let down. They were and are all very proud of these young people overcoming nervous feelings but also watching them have a very enjoyable experience throughout the whole exercise” said President of the Kytherian Association of Australia, Dr Victor Kepreotis.

The night full of ‘kefi’ wouldn’t have been possible without the Ball Committee of the Kytherian Association of Australia that put many months of effort into organising such a successful and fantastic event.

Donations from the night were made to Beyond Blue & KythCare (Kytherian Aged Care Services) and guests were given lots of magical moments.
