Greece and Russia consolidate relations

Greece’s foreign minister Nikos Kotzias reaffirmed the country’s relationship with Russia on Wednesday during an official visit to Moscow.

Kotzias met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov where he reminded his audience that both countries have had diplomatic relations for the past 190 years.

Kotzias said that the first Prime Minister of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was formerly a foreign minister of Russia and added that his visit to Moscow is taking place in the context of the Friendship Agreement between the two countries signed 25 years ago and wished Russia success at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia tournament.

The State University of International Relations Moscow presented the Greek Foreign Minister with an honorary doctorate  following his lecture on Greece's foreign policy.

In the evening Kotzias met with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and Russia.
