Greek parliament to debate non-confidence motion against Tsipras

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has set a non-confidence motion in Parliament against the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras over his deal with FYROM.

“I have an obligation before the Greek people to try to avert the mortgaging of our country's future with an agreement that is detrimental to our national interests," New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

The debate in parliament started 6pm on Thursday, shortly after the vote on an omnibus bill containing the remaining prior actions for the fourth and final review of Greece's fiscal programme and is expected to conclude by 2pm on Saturday.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis tabled the motion in response to Greece's agreement with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on the name issue and accused the government of handling both the economy and national issues in a dangerous way and without parliamentary legitimacy.

"Tsipras is about to sign an agreement and bind the country to a framework that will create a fait accompli. The combination of economic and national issues is not accidental, it is a conscious choice to distract attention from the issues of the economy," he added.
