Greece’s picture- perfect summer town is Parga

If you are in search of a picture- perfect town to visit in Greece over summer, Parga is your place!

Featuring a picturesque ruined castle, nestled against the waters of the Adriatic Sea and within a short boat trip of Corfu, Parga is a delightful old Venetian port, which is one of Greece's finest destinations.

From crystal blue waters for swimming, historic sites to see and close-by excursions to the Ionian Islands, there is so much to see and do in this town located in Preveza.

Pretty Parga is worth a visit any time of the year, for its stunning pastel-coloured houses, Venetian hilltop castle and bustling bars and restaurants. Over the years Parga has become a very popular area but this does not detract from its charming natural setting, the focal point of which is the tiny island of Panagia, located just offshore, and its terracotta-topped church.

And when the sun sets, the seafront tavernas and bars become packed with locals and international visitors who enjoy the breathtaking scenery as the town lights up.

There are so many things to see, including the Church of the Dodeka Apostoli (1780), which has painted frescoes of Christ's last supper and crucifixion. A few steps away, you will find the Church of Agios Dimitrios(1850) and the largest is the Church of Agios Nikolaos, dedicated to Parga's patron saint.

And what's a summer holiday without enjoying the Aegean sea! Krioneri Beach is located in the main town, featuring a sand and shallow waters, opposite a small island, Panagia, which also has a gorgeous church to visit. A 15-minute walk over the castle hill leads you to the 2km-long Valtos Beach. Alternatively, 4km east of Parga, Lichnos Beach is more relaxed, with a small, shady campground and clear waters.

Spartila is a secluded beach with amazing water a few kilometres from Anthousa Village, Sarakiniko is a beautiful organised beach and Agia Paraskevi is one of the most picturesque offering white sand.

As mentioned above, the central, waterfront area is busy with restaurants and tavernas, most of which serve traditional Greek cuisine – a couple of options in the old quarter also experiment with a wider range of Mediterranean cuisines and there is also a wide variety of places to grab a summer cocktail, where you can sit back and enjoy the magical views.
