84-year-old Dimitris Moudatsakis from the island of Crete, has proven that dreams can come true after passing the Panellinies 2018 exams with flying colours and being accepted into university to study History and Archaeology in Rethymnon.
"I was first in the group,” he said proudly of his achievement.
"I wanted to study from a young age. I watched other kids go to school and I envied them. I wanted to go too, but I couldn’t," says Dimitris, who opened his own bookbinding business after learning the craft from his uncle.
Dimitris always made sure that he provided for his family and put their needs first. However, when his children were married and Dimitris retired from work, he decided it was time to fulfil his lifetime dream of attending university.
Dimitris enrolled himself into night classes to receive a high-school diploma and then began studying hard to prepare for his university exams.
"All those years, I had a book in my hand and would always read. Every Saturday, when we were paid, I would go and buy a book," he told Cretalive.
Now Dimitris along with his family are trying to work out how he will be commuting to university, with Dimitris reassuring everyone that although it won’t be easy he has the strength and determination to see it through.
