A “no-deal” Brexit bad for Greece too: UK Minister

The United Kingdom’s Minister of State at the Department for Exiting the EU, said that a “no -deal” Brexit would be detrimental to the EU and its member states too.

Speaking to Athens News Agency, Lord Martin Callanan expressed optimism that there will be an agreement at the EU summit in October but in the event of a no deal, he did not rule out "scenes of chaos at the airports and ports of Europe" after March 30, 2019.

During the interview Lord Callanan pointed to the positive prospects that appear for Greece after its exit from the bailout and said that he believed the Greek economy will improve further, stressing the "excellent bilateral ties between Athens and London."

In regards to students, business people and tourists travelling in and out of the United Kingdom, he said the UK's white paper proposes travel without a visa, adding that nothing will change with the student fees next year.

Lord Callanan expressed his disappointment regarding the reaction of the European Commission to the British proposal to work with the EU in the areas of security, saying that "we are not setting any conditions, we are not trying to connect it with any economic issues."
