Cyprus Government announces €10m aid to Greece 2

The Cyprus Government have announced in an official statement on their website, that the cabinet has approved a €10m aid to Greece as assistance for those affected by the deadly wild fires, that has to date killed 80 people.

The decision was made at the Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, under the presidency of President Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, as a sign of solidarity of the Cypriot people to Greeks.

Government spokesman, Prodromos Prodromou said that “in the face of the huge destruction caused by the fires in Attica, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus express their deepest sorrow, condolences for the victims, hope for locating persons that are still missing and wishes for the recovery of those injured.”

The government will also open a special account at the Central Bank of Cyprus and commercial banks, as they appeal to private individuals, groups and companies that are collecting funds to deposit them in special accounts set up by the state treasury.

The overall collected amount will be given to projects and actions for the relief and support of the victims, following consultations with the Greek government.
