Greece’s 44th anniversary of the restoration of democracy on Tuesday was cancelled following the fire tragedies enveloping Greece.
“Today is a day of remembrance. It is the 44th anniversary of the restoration of democracy, but it is all overshadowed by the tragedy of the dead from the fire," said the President of the Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos.
Pavlopoulos made the statement during his visit to the buildings of the former Greek Military Police, currently available to the Association of Prisoners and Exiled Resistance Officers 1967-1974.
The President laid a wreath at the monument of Spyros Moustaklis and conducted a tour of the premises. Among others, he visited the cells and examined the desk of Alekos Panagoulis, the area where Spyros Moustaklis was tortured and viewed items used by those in exile.
The President of the Association of Prisoners and Exiled Resistance Officers outlined to Pavlopoulos the methods used by the resistance in their action against the junta.
