Greek student Georgios Kotsovolis, from the Mathematics Department of the University of Athens, has won the gold medal at the 25th Mathematics Student Competition IMC (International Mathematics Competition), held from the 22nd to 28th of July, 2018, in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

It is the second consecutive year in which the top Greek student has won the gold medal in the competition, which is a first in history for the University of Athens.

The International Mathematics Competition is the world's largest mathematics contest for students and is organised by the University College of London. It has been running since 1994 with the participation of leading US and European Universities.

Students compete for two days with 5 maths problems to solve a day and Georgios beat 350 students to take the gold medal.
